ITM Power contract for Operation of Hydrogen Facility
2 August, 2013ITM Power, the energy storage and clean fuel company, has been selected by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) as the preferred bidder to become the operator of a Hydrogen Mini Grid System (HMGS) in Rotherham, UK. The Hydrogen Mini Grid System (HMGS) is a unique UK asset consisting of a 225kW wind turbine coupled directly to an electrolyser, 200kg of hydrogen storage and a hydrogen dispensing unit as well as a 30kW fuel cell system for back up power generation for nearby buildings.

Turning heads: towards a Hydrogen Event of the Year
2 August, 2013In this season of festivals it is tempting to imagine a hydrogen event that will turn heads and attract the crowds of Glastonbury, V Festival, Pukkelpop or Aix en Provence. Hydrogen conferences to date have attracted mostly researchers, application developers, consultants, government officials (sent of paying out of pocket), students (sent or paying out of pocket), retired engineers regretting not to be part of this wave. Although the H2 and FC industry over the last 7 years has achieved remarkable results in terms of performance and costs and many Drive and Rides are part of the program,  the general public let alone VIP or even local press do not seem to find their way yet to these events. The coming European FC and H2 event season offer an opportunity to change this tide: the EHA will be presenting at the International Conference on Hydrogen Safety, September 9- 11 in Brussels,

Germany will reduce exemptions that big power-using firms have enjoyed from grid fees
1 August, 2013Chancellor Angela Merkel’s cabinet agreed to reduce the exemptions that big power-using firms have enjoyed from grid fees. These exemptions affect sectors such as chemicals, metals, glass and building materials and began in 2011. They have helped German industry to remain competitive despite some of the highest power prices in Europe, by saving power-intenstive companies around €300 million last year.

EIB raised the bar on criteria for funding fossil-fuel projects
25 July, 2013In a new energy lending policy approved by bank shareholders at a board meeting in Luxembourg the European Investment Bank (EIB) has restricted lending for fossil-fuel projects, by introducing an Emissions Performance Standard (EPS) of 550 grams of CO2 per KiloWatt Hour (g/kWh).
