The 5th SHFCA (Scottish Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association) annual conference will be held over two days on the 25th and 26th September 2013 in Edinburgh. This conference will be located at the prestigious venue of Victoria Quay, by kind permission of HyER member Transport Scotland and the Scottish Government. Both days will offer delegates the opportunity to hear from a very strong line-up of speakers on state of the art technical developments, as well as the policies and practical measures that will allow the timely deployment of hydrogen and fuel cells.

The 2013 Scottish Hydrogen & Fuel Cell Conference will consider the key challenges and opportunities for taking hydrogen and fuel cell technologies and products into rapidly growing markets for low carbon consumer products, including the expected deployment of fuel cell electric vehicles from 2015. Fuel cells are already being used commercially in very efficient combined heat and power (CHP) systems, and micro-CHP fuel cell systems for domestic installation are also being rolled out into consumer markets.

This conference will bring together prominent speakers from Scotland, UK, and Europe. The opening plenary speech will be by Fergus Ewing MSP, Minister for Energy, Enterprise and Tourism. The other confirmed speakers for the plenary session include Graham Smith OBE of Toyota Motor Europe, Lisa Jordan of Air Products, and Dr Dan Carter of Fuel Cell Today with the updated 2013 Fuel Cell Industry Review.

This year’s conference programme includes thematic sessions on Low Carbon Heat, City Transport, Stationary Power and Energy Storage & Conversions. We also have a session to explore the opportunities for increased levels of cooperation and partnership working between countries, both in Europe and internationally.

The first day of this two day conference is on Wednesday 25th September at Victoria Quay, Edinburgh from 11:00 to 17:00. Includes sessions on Grid-Gas & Low Carbon Heat, and Energy Storage & Conversions with Renewables. A  highly interactive session on education and outreach activities is also planned, before adjourning to the evening Conference Dinner being held at a convenient location in Edinburgh city centre. The conference dinner will this year be a truly memorable evening on Wednesday 25th September, with the dinner being hosted by Fergus Ewing MSP, the Minister for Energy, Enterprise, and Tourism. The venue for the conference dinner will be the outstanding location of the Great Hall of Edinburgh Castle.

The second day is on Thursday 26th September at Victoria Quay, Edinburgh from 09:00 to 16:30, starting with the plenary session on ‘Getting Ready for Consumer Markets’. Other sessions on the second day will cover International Trade & Innovation Development, and City Transport & Smart Mobility Applications. The conference will conclude with a Panel Q&A Session which brings together the key themes from the conference.
