A major review of the overall EU Transport Policy is taking place at the moment, as shown by the various initiatives already launched or foreseen by the European Commission between 2009 and 2011.

In particular, on 28 March 2011, the European Commission adopted a new White Paper for transport covering the next decade, “Roadmap to a Single European Transport Area –Towards a competitive and resource efficient transport system”. The White Paper was adopted after the publication of the Communication “A sustainable future for transport” (July 2009) and a public consultation process that followed in 2009. In addition, the Commission is expected to finish its review of the TEN-T Policy later this year.

Within this context, the EIB launched on 30 March 2010 a public consultation with a deadline for responses by 24 June 2011 in view of the revision of its Transport Lending Policy, the first sector policy the Bank consults upon publicly. As part of this consultation process, a public meeting will be organized in Brussels on Monday, 6 June 2011.
