The new generation of fuel cell buses with hydrogen fuel which was delivered to Hamburg last summer has passed the test phase and is now in normal operation with passengers. The vehicles are in scheduled service.

The first series of tests of the new fuel cell hybrids at the HOCHBAHN utility could be finished successfully. The passenger has the benefit of smooth acceleration and braking which enhances the driving comfort. Unlike the buses of the first generation which were tested successfully up to 2010 in Hamburg the new buses can recuperate braking energy. This and other technical improvements have reduced the hydrogen consumption considerably
