When: 17 June, 2015

Islands can play an important role in realising the Energy Union. A number of island ‘test beds’ across Europe are successfully demonstrating complex energy solutions to the practical challenge of integrating different energy sources. Innovation on islands has been driven by the challenges they face due to their isolation from mainland energy and supply networks and their vulnerability to high import costs, supply disruptions and energy price shocks.

This event will showcase sustainable island projects in Europe. It will demonstrate the combination of cross-sector collaboration, community engagement, policy approaches, financing and skills development used to realise these initiatives.

Building on this, discussion will focus on how to use the learnings from island projects to solve challenges in the Europe-wide energy system; and the potential to export the sustainable islands ‘package’ of experience and technical leadership to islands across the globe.

Registration and coffee from 09.15. The session will be followed by a networking lunch.
