The BBC business section on the day of  solar eclipse on March 20 published another story  with a cosmic dimension under the title “Hydrogen, Hydrogen, everywhere…” Pointing to the abundance of hydrogen in the atmosphere and its use in the first fuel vehicles. The story features FCH JU chairman Pierre Etienne Franc pointing to the long road ahead, while Toyota’s Nik Pearson points to the announcement that it would share nearly 6,000 of its hydrogen fuel cell patents portfolio covering fuel cell stacks, high-pressure hydrogen tanks, software control systems and the industrial processes involved in generating and supplying the gas.

In another medium the science writer and broadcaster Marcus Chown gives a similar global perspective on the importance and potential of hydrogen in his new book Life, The Universe and Everything in a Nutshell:
“Hydrogen when combined with oxygen – think rocket fuel, think respiration – liberates large amounts of energy. It could power all manner of machines from cars to computers. Artificial photosynthesis, able to make hydrogen fuel from sunlight, would be a game-changing technology. It could transform the world.”
