Global standards for hydrogen and fuel cells are made in the Technical Committee 197 „Hydrogen Technologies“ of the world standardisation organisation ISO. This year’s plenary of the TC was held on December 4 and 5 in Japan.

The focus of TC 197 at this time is on hydrogen refilling stations and their components. The work is urgent, because the European Commission has recently published a directive on the infrastructure for alternative fuels. It can only be implemented when there are standards which can be referred to. So the working groups are extremely busy.

Among the items already finished is the revision of the basic paper on safe handling of hydrogen TR 15196). The official publication of the report is expected for early 2015.
