The EU Commissioner  for the Environment, Karmenu Vella, summoned the repsonsible ministers of Germany (yes),  France (yes), Italy, Spain, UK, Romania, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia to Brussels on January 30 to hear them out on their (missing) actions to fight air pollution. Especially their efforts to reduce Nox emissions to avoid the 400.000 premature deaths from air pollution in Europe. Nine countries were urged to report back on their measures and complaince with EU nroms by February 9, 2018. Recently Scottish scientists published a study that air pollution is more harmful than smoking. Bulgaria, who holds the current EU Presidency, together with Poland has already announced to seek to change the targets as they feel they are too costly.
