Electro Power Systems SpA is launching its self-recharging fuel cell system, Electroself, in India for the first time. Previewed in February 2010, ElectroSelf has undergone a series of trials in Europe, the Americas and Asia. Designed to deliver dependable backup power for mobile networks in off-grid locations, Electroself can be controlled and monitored remotely. It is a closed system generating its own hydrogen whenever power is available and automatically engaging the fuel cell during power failures. The company also claims this type of system could be adapted to sell excess power back to the grid or provide power to local communities.
