They sound more like big socio economic endeavours to keep steer the EU towards a great united future, but Projects of Common Interest in the EU energy terms are projects (namely in electricity and gas) aiming at increasing competitiveness, enhancing Union security of energy supply, contributing to sustainable development and protection of the environment. The European Commission on July 1 has opened the second call for proposals under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme. A total of €600 million will be made available to help finance key EU energy infrastructure projects with impact in at least two Member States. This call will support projects geared at the following objectives: ending energy isolation, eliminating energy bottlenecks and completion of the internal energy market. Applications can be presented from now until November 8th 2016.
With this second call for proposals, the amount of money allocated under the CEF programme amounts to €800 million. The first call, closed in April 2016, had made available €200 million. This grant will contribute to carrying out both studies and construction works.
