Temporary infrastructure consortia for low-carbon refuelling deployment, study suggests
The European Think Tank Bruegel launched a study sponsored by the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking FCH JU, entitled “Public Support for the Energy and Transport System Transition”on February 2, 2012, calling for the integration of transport in Europe’s Emission Trading System to ensure the rapid commercialisation of  new technologies like fuel cell powered vehicles.
“To enable the private sector to make the necessary investments for development and deployment of the technologies needed for the energy and transport system transition, a set of smart policies needs to be implemented.”

Hamburg opens Europe’s largest hydrogen fuelling station
The HafenCity, supported by the German federal government through the National Innovation Programme for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology, was officially inaugurated in Hamburg.
The fuelling station will be operated by Vattenfall and will supply renewable hydrogen to both cars and buses. The plant is part of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership between Hamburg and Berlin and its total capacity of 760 kg of hydrogen per day makes it the largest of such a kind in Europe.

Fuel Cell Today publishes Report on Fuel Cells and Hydrogen in Finland
Fuel Cell Today has published a series of five reports on the Nordic countries, one which gives a brief overview of the energy context in Finland.  Finland’s particular strength is in the use of wood-based biomass for energy. Over a fifth of its primary energy consumption is met by bioenergy, one of the highest proportions among the OECD member countries, and it has the highest share of biomass in electricity generation in the world.

EHA chairman moderates Daimler presentation at EU Parliament
EU support for fuel cell electric power train development will ensure that Europe keeps its competitive edge in fuel cell electric power train development in the global roll-out of electric vehicles. Daimler director for Strategic energy projects and market development BEV / FCV,  Joerg Wind presented the view of Daimler of the role of different power trains in future transport applications in a packed session at the EU Parliament on February 28, 2012.  Invited by Bulgarian MEP  Vladko Todorov Panayotov, EHA president Ian Willamson moderated the session, referring to the role of  the EHA and its 21 national association and industry members, including Linde, Air Products, Air Liquide,  SHEL, Ballast Nedam and  ENI,  to facilitate roll-out of the required hydrogen infrastructure at national and local level.
