100% renewable targets will require power storage to manage flows on the net
Electrolysers utilise these intermittent power flows to produce H2 gas from water
H2 gas can be stored in large quantities underground and transported via existing gas pipelines
H2 vehicles recharge faster and are more durable than battery powered transport
Growing H2 demand in industrial processes will reduce costs and increase supply

The last EU Council on October 23 -24 decided that all EU energy and climate targets for 2030 will be subject to the world’s ambition with regards to CO2 emission at the next UNFCCC meeting and it will revert to this issue after the COP 21 Paris Conference. In December 2015,  the Council indicated that it “will keep all the elements of the framework under review and will continue to give strategic orientations as appropriate, notably with respect to consensus on ETS, non-ETS, interconnections and energy efficiency.”  This will mean that convincing colleagues at international level that the EU is on the right track with its CO2 reductions is becoming more urgent. EHA’s  German and UK national association members are taking important steps in this direction by informing their national parliamentarians on European and international hydrogen deployment activities. The German Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association DWV organized its annual parliamentarian evening in the US embassy in Berlin on November 4, 2014. EHA board member and DWV chairman Werner Diwald summed up the evening saying: “From the perspective of DWV the evening was a real success. It became obvious that “Power-to-Gas” and hydrogen mobility are not a German folly but that this path is taken globally. Germany and the EU must be careful not to miss a technology trend again. “Power-to-Gas” is not just a key for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from transport and to more renewable power, but it also lowers our dependence from imported raw materials. At the same time the idea offers a huge potential for new jobs in machinery and system construction. “ On November 25, our UK colleagues of the UK Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Association will organize their parliamentary evening.
