As logistics, caused by political tension in the Middle East, and climate challenges have dominated the hottest European summer of 2026 (June), not only electric network operators are rethinking their strategies, also gas operators are looking beyond natural gas. The Nordic Baltic Hydrogen Corridor NBHC, has published the outcome of its first Call for Interest, conducted the beginning of this year. The NBHC is bringing together six European nations to develop a joint, high-capacity cross-border hydrogen
pipeline infrastructure of ~2,500 km of dedicated pipeline with an expected throughput of ~2.7 Mt H2 (91 TWh) by 2040.

The participating gas grid operators, Finland’s Gasgrid vetyverkot Oy, Estonia’s Elering, Latvia’s Conexus Baltic Grid, Lithuania’s Amber Grid, Poland’s GAZ-SYSTEM, Germany’s ONTRAS Gastransport, secured seed funding form the Connecting Europe Facility CEF. The Corridor aims to support the development of clean hydrogen markets and integrate them into Europe’s future energy system.
