100% renewable targets will require power storage to manage flows on the net
Electrolysers utilise these intermittent power flows to produce H2 gas from water
H2 gas can be stored in large quantities underground and transported via existing gas pipelines
H2 vehicles recharge faster and are more durable than battery powered transport
Growing H2 demand in industrial processes will reduce costs and increase supply

In the next few weeks, Member States are expected to decide the EU’s budget for 2014-2020. To support European growth and competitiveness, a number of business leaders have signed a declaration calling on senior EU policymakers to support and approve the Connecting Europe Facility. Commissioner Kallas at an EV event on Brussels on November 5, 2012 indicated that it is crucial that the funding gap is bridged through industrial investment commitment and a joint EU budget approach. He indicated that the EU Clean Transport System Initiative will include clear targets leaving room for the market development of different clean transport technologies.  The declaration can be signed online.
