100% renewable targets will require power storage to manage flows on the net
Electrolysers utilise these intermittent power flows to produce H2 gas from water
H2 gas can be stored in large quantities underground and transported via existing gas pipelines
H2 vehicles recharge faster and are more durable than battery powered transport
Growing H2 demand in industrial processes will reduce costs and increase supply
Taking stock of fuel cell bus deployment: autumn brief

October saw an impressive number of gatherings in which the current status of  integration of fuel cell hybride bus in daily bus operations was presented. The CHIC intermediate conference on October 8,  gave insight in the bus  and refuelling infrastructure performance: the good news is that fuel cells increasingly exceed expectations as was already demonstrated in previous projects and that now also refuelling operations are operating at above 98% availability. Challenges still exist in optimizing the hybride system that has led to less availability of the buses than in previous experiences. Bus  suppliers are confident that these will be solved in the second part of the project. European fuel Cell bus operations continue to impress American colleagues who joined the European fuel cell and hydrogen industry in Hamburg on October 16- 17 to discuss further roll out strategies. HyER presented its efforts in engaging their 37 local authority membership through presentations and workshops, highlighting their collaboration with the BusWorld Academy; a session on new bus technologies was organised during BusWorld Fair in Kortrijk on October 18. As the intensive awareness studies in the CHIC and previous projects demonstrate, in order to convince bus operators and key decision makers to start deploying these buses, securing continuation of FC bus operations in current locations is crucial, requiring a clear  demonstration of commitments towards these technologies of bus and infrastructure system and component suppliers.  The latest UNEP Emission Gap Report 2013,  that was published a week before the UNFCCC COP 19 in Warsaw starting November 11, is referring to the need to implement clean technologies at an even faster pace is …
