100% renewable targets will require power storage to manage flows on the net
Electrolysers utilise these intermittent power flows to produce H2 gas from water
H2 gas can be stored in large quantities underground and transported via existing gas pipelines
H2 vehicles recharge faster and are more durable than battery powered transport
Growing H2 demand in industrial processes will reduce costs and increase supply
Introduction

At the EHA Spring starts early this year.  Fuel cell vehicles seems to pop up more frequently in references to electromobility and comments on the long term perspective of hydrogen are contradicted by recent the Mercedes Benz F-Cell World Tour and new refueling station openings. Five Think hydrogen passenger cars will be launched during the he Norwegian Hydrogen Forum General Assembly and EHA industry member McPhy signed a contract with Italy’s largest power company Enel for one of its solid hydrogen storage units to.

The EHA assisted in the kick off  of 5 European funded projects over the last month: February marked the kick off of the HyLIFT-DEMO project, demonstrating 30 Fuel Cell Forklift trucks in 3 European sites, the HyFacts project that is developing training programs for authorisation officials and the  HyPROFESSIONALS project which aims to develop educational and training programs for future hydrogen professionals. The EHA also facilitated the first technical expert workshop in Brussels  of the The FC-HyGuide project, which aims to develop a guidance manual for the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)  of Fuel Cell and Hydrogen based systems and related training materials and courses.

Events to look forward to this following month include the HyER (formerly HyRaMP) commemorative cocktail which will highlight a new beginning for the partnership as it broadens it’s scope to Electromobility on March 16th.  Both the EHA and HyER (formerly HyRaMP) are speaking at  the European Parliament Seminar, “Powering Europe’s Future Mobility” hosted by the European political group ALDE on March 15.

HyPROFESSIONALS results on EHA website
16 February, 2016HyPROFESSIONALS project, funded by the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking,  is focused on the development of educational programmes and training initiatives for technical professionals to secure the required mid- and long-term availability of human resources capable to properly operate the technologies safely.
The project kickoff took place Tuesday February 15th.  The projects 9 partner organisations coming from 8 different European countries came together in a collaborative effort to define the ambitions of the project and give the overall impetus to the project’s activities. EHA is the dissemination partner for HyPROFESSIONALS.

Norwegian Hydrogen Forum General Assembly and 5 Think Vehicles in Norway
18 March, 2011The 2011 Norwegian Hydrogen Forum will be held March 29th in conjunction with the launch of  5 Think Hydrogen passenger cars in circulation in Norway. The vehicles are part of the HyNOR project which includes the building of a new hydrogen refuelling station in Lillestrom, Norway. The new station has begun building and is planned to be concluded in November of this year. The Vehicles have 10kW FC (range extender) and a total range of 250 km. The 5 Thinks will be spread among various users including a local energy company, The Institute for Energy Technology (IFE), and one will be kept by the Norwegian Forum for car pooling. .. .. ..

Following the Mercedes Benz F-Cell World Tour
2 March, 2011EHA is following the progress of the 3 B-Class F-Cell  vehicles that were launched for their trip around the world. The journey started on the 29th of January 2011 in Stuttgart Germany, and in 125 days the vehicles will have traveled around the world and a distance of 30,000 km. The editor and others involved in the journey are frequently updating the public on their trip. Their journal not only lets us know about the vehicles but gives an interesting story to the people and places that are visited around the world.  The latest news shows the vehicles are in New Orleans Louisiana in the USA. HyER (formerly HyRaMP) Commemorates New Spring In Electric and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Roll Out
2 March, 2011On February 16th 2011, HyRaMP members along with additional European regions came together in an effort to establish the  “broadened HyRaMP Partnership” at a Workshop that took place in Brussels. At a Workshop  HyRaMP future activities were discussed and it was decided to take the necessary steps to adapt HyRaMP’s structure and its name to reflect the new activities, to be presented to HyRaMP members at the next Annual General Meeting later this year. To commemorate this new spring in European regions support for the roll out of electric vehicles in Europe, HyRaMP will be hosting a cocktail ceremony on March 16th at the Palais de Academies in Brussels.

McPhy Energy signs contract with Enel Group for solid hydrogen storage
16 February, 2011McPhy Energy has announced that the company has signed a contract with the Enel Group, Italy for the supply of a solid hydrogen storage solution. The system has a capacity of 2 kilograms of solid hydrogen, stored in the form of magnesium hydrides (which do not require compression), offering an innovative solution for safe, reversible hydrogen storage, with energy efficiency. A prototype of the system design was validated through a series of tests at the CEA-LITEN (the French national Laboratory of Innovation for New Energy Technologies and Nanomaterials in Grenoble, France). The test tank was coupled to an electrolyser and to a fuel cell, successfully demonstrating the storage of renewable energy.
