Walmart orders 1.738 Plug Power fuel cell forklift trucks

Plug Power Inc. on 26 February  confirms the company has received a multi-site GenKey purchase order from Walmart Stores, Inc. to roll out its hydrogen fuel cell solution to power 1,738 electric lift truck fleets at six North America distribution centers. The first of six sites will be deployed by the second quarter of 2014 and warranties run for 6 years.

Fuel cell powered maerail handling applications  have many benefits: workers spend less time fueling a forklift truck as compared to changing a lead-acid battery, resulting in less downtime, they have no exhaust emissions so that they can be a component in implementing corporate environmental initiatives.

“We are pleased with the performance of the hydrogen fuel cells that we have been operating and are excited to expand our program with Plug Power,” said Jeff Smith, Senior Director for Walmart Logistics.

HyPROFESSIONALS Kickoff
HyPROFESSIONALS project, funded by the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking,  is focused on the development of educational programmes and training initiatives for technical professionals to secure the required mid- and long-term availability of human resources capable to properly operate the technologies safely. The project kickoff took place Tuesday February 15th.  The projects 9 partner organisations coming from 8 different European countries came together in a collaborative effort to define the ambitions of the project and give the overall impetus to the project’s activities. EHA is the dissemination partner for HyPROFESSIONALS. More info >>
HYFACTS, Identification, Preparation and Dissemination of Hydrogen Safety Facts to Regulators and Public Safety Officials
HyFacts is a “Coordination and Support Action (CSA)” and aims to develop and initiate dissemination of training material for Regulators and Public Safety Officials, which are responsible persons and work for entities, having to position themselves in the increasing number of upcoming installation of hydrogen-related technologies in public areas, companies, universities, research centers, fairgrounds, harbor sites and other places where fuel cell and hydrogen (FCH) installations and mobile applications shall be installed and operated in the near future. EHA in collaboration with FAST, will assist in identifying target audience and facilitate the understanding of the needs of requirements of training material. More info >>
