MPs Line-Up to Drive Hydrogen Powered Mercedes – UK

Westminster, 22nd June 2011 Dozens of MPs and Peers took a spin in a hydrogen powered car as the Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-CELL and an Air Products hydrogen fuelling station.
The fuelling station was presented to the Parliament for the first time can fill up the vehicle in less than four minutes!

Energy Commissioner launches Smart Cities and Communities Initiative

Speaking to 500 representatives of cities, business, the financial sector and research institutions EU Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger launched on June 21st the EU’s new Smart Cities and Communities Initiative, the EU’s programme for the energy efficient cities of tomorrow.

Spiros Fuel Cell Vehicle competing during Shell Eco Marathon

Royal Institute of Technology participated in a fuel cell powered vehicle in the Shell Eco Marathon in Germany at the end of May. The Competition is about achieving the longest possible distance on as little fuel as possible and participants are students from numerous countries coming together in the spirit of healthy competition. In the Urban Concept class managed KTH car Spiros got a stretch of 60 km at 1 kWh of electricity, equivalent to 530 kilometers per liter of gasoline, which was enough to make an excellant position in the results list. H2 Expo 2011 – The International Conference and Exhibition on Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and Electric Drives

H2 Expo 2011 will be held for the eighth time this year in Hamburg, the European Green Capital.  The International Conference and Exhibition on Hydrogen, Fuel Cells and Electric Drives will provide the opportunity to discuss the latest trends and developments in mobile, stationary and portable applications. The focus will be on the latest applications in the automotive, maritime, aerospace and energy supply industries. For the first time, H2Expo will also cover the closely related fields of electric drive technology, electric energy storage systems and hybrid systems.
The two-day conference and the accompanying trade fair will bring together suppliers and potential customers from the market  and offer exhibitors the chance to make new business contacts.

Towards a Joint Vision on H2 Infrastructure Roll-Out

Over the past months EHA has been involved in numerous actions with the overall objective to prepare the European context for Hydrogen transport and energy infrastructure.

Through Consultations on the Strategic Transport and Technology Plan, Smart Cities Initiative and presence at the Cars 21 working group meetings, EHA was able to emphasize the need to start integrating hydrogen requirements in current transport and energy infrastructure planning while underlining needed technology improvements in battery electric and fuel cell electric power trains to reduce costs, large scale energy storage, smart grids facilitating the deployment of low carbon transport applications.

The TEN-T, the Trans-European Network for Transport, will also include a calls for introducing innovative technologies into transport infrastructure projects. During the next info day that will take place June 29 2011, much emphasis will be put in the application of new technologies in transport infrastructure.

The procedure aims to indicate priority areas and next actions in terms of relevant projects and funding schemes for Smart Cities development.

Future Transport Fuels Group includes EHA

EHA is representing the European hydrogen industry in recent meetings of the Future Transport Fuels Expert Group. The Group has taken an advising role to the European Commission on the development of political strategies and concrete measure aiming at substituting fossil oil as transport fuel.
